Nursery Dresser Project

Dustin and I found a dresser we like at a local furniture store, but we didn't love the price. I began searching consignment stores, and found a similar style piece. The only thing it needed, was to be painted, so the project began.

Here was the dresser when we bought it:

Here are the supplies that were needed:

Here are some pictures showing our hard work:

After doing a little research online, I found an awesome primer that claimed it did not require any sanding. After consulting at my local Sherwin Williams store, they agreed it was a fabulous product (even though they didn't carry it), but that they still recommended a "light" sanding. With that being said, I started with a light sanding, put on two coats of primer (was a little scared after the first coat, I was worried because it didn't cover everything - two coats was perfect!!), two coats of oil based paint, one coat of stain, and one coat of clear finish. Please note - even though I used an oil based primer and oil based paint, S.W. told me to use a water based finish. They told me that if I were to use an oil based finish it would yellow due to the stain. I was so glad my sales rep was so knowledgeable!

Here is the dresser almost finished...... I know I know, how weak, the final picture is an almost finished product. I was so excited the other day when I had put on the new hardware and hung the shutter door, but completely forgot to take a picture. I will take pictures of it in the nursery to show you all.

I love how the dresser turned out! Plus this DIY project only cost us one fifth the price of the new dresser we liked at the furniture store! :)

Life Lately.....

Dustin and I have been extremely busy lately. Since finding out we are having a baby, we have been trying to get the house ready. Well, more of me coming up with ideas of things that "need to be done," and Dustin being nice enough to usually help. I have booked contractors to come blow in insulation in our walls (we found out we have zero insulation in any exterior walls, which explains the bizarre temperatures of our house), install new windows in all the bedrooms, and have new carpet put in all of our bedrooms. This will all be taking place in May, so I am very excited.

We recently had an early peak to see what the gender of baby T is. According to Midland College we are having a little boy :) we are ecstatic. I am pretty sure if someone sees boy parts, its a boy, but just to be sure, we have a "real" check with the doctor on May 3rd. We have been tossing around several boy names - our favorite is Huck, but everyone seems to feel the need to remind us of what Huck rhymes with...... As for now, no name is set, but we do like Hayes Stanley Tommerup. Stanley is after Dustin's paternal grandfather, who I had the pleasure of meeting one time before he passed away. Baby T's expected arrival date is September 17th.

Other than that, just the usual going on. I have posted pictures of our most recent trip with the Sills clan at the ranch. We had fun just being our family at the ranch - mom and dad had never been at the ranch with just their kids, so they were thrilled. Here are a few pictures from the weekend:

Sorry to Lou, Pops and Stephanie, it appears I did not get any pictures of the four of us, but there is always next time.

This is a test......

This is a test, I'm new to the whole blogging thing and don't even know if I'm doing this right. If you can read this - I'm a genius.
